DayZ Badlands military base location guide
DayZ Badlands military base location guide for Nasdara: airbase, dam, missile site, toxic tunnel, routes, and water.
Why your first base decides the spawn
Fresh servers after the Badlands wipe have every squad asking the same question: which DayZ Badlands military base location is actually worth the walk. Thirst kills slower than a rifle and faster than the infected, and Nasdara’s abandoned bases are where both problems collide. A useful DayZ Badlands military base location is not a single treasure pin. It is a choice about spawn side, how long you can go without a drink, and how many other survivors had the same plan.

DayZ Badlands went live on October 15, 2026, with Update 1.30. Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ Badlands launch announcement confirms a full wipe on every platform, motorbikes, selected firearms, reworked gear, and desert clothing such as face wraps, dust goggles, lighter outfits, and camouflage. The new land is Nasdara province in western Takistan, the country west of Chernarus. It is a fully inland desert of 267 square kilometers, the largest official DayZ map, with sands toward the Sarman Ghar in the east and mountains toward Ardistan in the west.
That size is why a bad first stop wastes the whole life. The province is built from original terrain, not a reused Bohemia map, so Chernarus airfield habits do not transfer. Official descriptions point to Soviet-era military leftovers, old proxy-war scars, oil infrastructure, and highways running east to west. On the walk you can meet mouflons, desert monitors, territorial dogs, and infected. None of those replace a route that starts near your spawn and ends at water you can actually drink.
Some of the best location notes still come from play-test tours and launch-week guides. Live loot after the wipe can shift, especially around rare crates. Use the regions below as a way to read the map, then trust the sign on the building in front of you.
Nasdara military sites, by role
Nobody in the current public write-ups has posted a full official coordinate sheet. That is normal on a one-day-old map. Search by quadrant, road, and landmark instead of a made-up grid. If a name appears only in a spoken tour, treat the spelling as temporary until an in-game sign confirms it.
The wiki-level map description already promises abandoned Soviet-era military bases. Player experience and a launch guide then name the compounds people are actually running. Tiers in the table are those reports, not a developer drop table. Two sources can call the same pile of guns different tiers.
| Site | Where reports place it | Why players go | Main risk | How firm the note is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dashtabad Airbase | Eastern map, near many east spawns | Early military clothes, canteens, basic guns; Ion Crates reported | Crowded in the first hours | Written guide and player video |
| Marek Barq Hydro Dam | Northwest, reachable from spawn | Higher-grade military points and a rear bunker | Other players; dam water is not for drinking | Direction is player experience |
| Nasdara City military spawns | Major city; quadrant not pinned | Mixed military gear plus hospitals and vehicles | Time lost in a huge urban area | Player experience |
| Qalat E Lut | Deep eastern desert | Fresh water, a cook spot, strong military loot | Long exposed hike, then company | Written guide and player video |
| Missile base (heard as Zulfacar) | Central west | Large military footprint and a special bunker | Size, PvP, unclear side objectives | Player video only; spelling unconfirmed |
| Southern toxic tunnel | South | High-tier Western-style guns reported | Gas, darkness, getting lost | Player video only |
| Land border crossing | Near that southern tunnel, per one player | Barracks plus NBC in medical tents | Called one of the hottest fights | Player video; place name unclear |
| Doomsday bunkers | Several; pins not published | Late rewards behind a code lock | A fight, plus a puzzle you may not have | Player video only |
Read the right-hand column before you cross the map for a name you heard once. Dashtabad, the dam, the city, and Qalat E Lut show up in more than a voice transcript. The missile base, the border checkpoint, the toxic tunnel, and the code-locked bunkers are still worth knowing, but they are community reports from one extended tour.
Dashtabad and the east-side ladder
For many east spawns, the first DayZ Badlands military base location worth the risk is Dashtabad Airbase. Player experience puts it close to eastern spawn areas, hard to miss, and sometimes only about ten minutes of walking. Treat that ten minutes as one play-test impression, not a measured average. The same report says most of the loot is early military kit: clothing, canteens, and basic weapons. The spike is the new Ion Crate, which players say can hold AKMs and DMRs.
A written launch guide agrees on the east-side placement and on the starter value: armor, food, and guns, with Ion Crates as something you find if you are lucky. Those two notes belong together. Do not build the run around the crate. Build it around a container, something you can shoot, and a reason to leave. If the crate room is loud, it is already someone else’s problem.
Use a short loop rather than a hero clear:
- Walk the outside fence line and listen before you enter a hangar or barracks.
- Take a canteen or any water container before you take a second stack of ammo.
- Grab food that is already in the building. The airbase is one of the few early military stops where guides mention meals, not just rifles.
- Pick one exit road and remember it. A “hard to miss” landmark only helps if you can find it again while bleeding.
- If you hear sustained fire, skip the Ion Crate path. Tier-one racks in a side building still beat a fresh spawn with empty hands.
The mansion players call Shyak is the next east-side rung, not a replacement for the airbase. Community reports say it is visible from a large part of the eastern map, sits on the way farther south, and holds gear that makes the Nasdara climate easier. A bunker underneath is the real reason to stop, and those same players say it is dark enough that you want a light before you go down. Nobody in these sources lists the exact “special” items in that bunker, so do not expect a named exotic. Expect a black stairwell and other visitors.
Qalat E Lut is the long east-desert version of that idea. Both the written guide and player experience say the hike is the tax and the payoff is water plus serious military loot. The article describes tier 3 and tier 4 gear and a real chance at an AKM. The video goes further and talks about tier 4, a gold AKM, and a desert VSD. Those named variants are player experience, not published rates. What you can plan around is a spring inside the compound and a balcony where you can cook. Players also warn that other people already know this spot. One tour even mentioned a cat on site. The cat is optional. The water is not.
Dam, city hub, and deeper military targets
Northwest spawns should look for Marek Barq Hydro Dam before they dream about the far desert. Player experience places the dam in the northwest and calls the approach reasonable from spawn. Military spawn points there are described as high grade, with a bunker at the back holding some of the strongest loot that player saw. A separate guide does not argue with the bunker or the fish, and it adds the practical warning: other survivors are already there.
The water rule is the part people get wrong. Community reports say the reservoir itself is not drinkable. It is a fishing spot, which solves food after you arrive and does nothing for the thirst you brought with you. Pack drinkable water for the trip in. Fish if you are hungry and the dam is quiet. Then move. Standing on the crest to admire the view is how you become a silhouette for anyone on the road below.
Nasdara City is the supply hub between these military stops, not a pure base. Player experience describes hospitals, water trucks, military spawns, industrial vehicle spawns, and a Blue Palace that is worth seeing even when you are done looting. The city is large enough that “clear Nasdara” is not a plan. Pick one job for the life: medical, a water truck, a military cluster, or a vehicle yard. The province’s main city sits in western Takistan; these sources do not prove it is the national capital, and they do not give a map quadrant. Follow highways and the palace skyline instead of a guessed compass bearing.
The central-west missile base is the first true late military commitment on that side of the map. A long-time player called it one of the largest military areas in Nasdara, a place to get seriously armed, with structures that spell out what the province was doing before the outbreak. They also pointed at a special bunker and glow pods, then refused to explain the rest. Keep it that way until you are inside. Do not invent a quest chain from a teaser. The spoken name, Zulfacar, may not match the sign. Look for a large missile installation on the central west, not for a perfect spelling in chat.
South is a different kind of military run. Player experience describes a toxic tunnel that is dark, deep, and easy to get lost in, with high-tier American-style weapons including M4 and SCAR spawns. Official launch notes put the expansion’s firearm range from the classic Lee-Enfield to modern SCR guns. That official range is the confirmed part. Exact tunnel tables are still community reports. Bring more gas-mask filters than a short basement would need. Running out of air halfway down a maze is the failure mode that player was warning about.
The same tour described a land border crossing near that tunnel as the biggest single location they had seen in DayZ, with barracks, residential buildings, industrial loot, and stacks of medical tents full of NBC gear. The map is inland, so this is a checkpoint between territories, not a port. The spoken place name is too muddy to print as fact. If you want the tunnel, the NBC tents are the staging loot. Community reports already expect a heavy player presence.
Doomsday bunkers are the end of that ladder. Player experience says there are several, that you will want more than one, and that the door is a code lock opened with a radio and a Morse code translation sheet. They also said to expect a fight. These sources do not include codes, bunker pins, or a reward list. Prepare a reliable Morse reference; these sources do not establish a lootable translation-sheet item or its spawn locations. Guessing numbers at the keypad is how you announce yourself.
One non-base belongs on every military route. OKB-754, a huge crater near the center, is described as one of the rare drinkable freshwater sources and as a place many spawn directions can reach. It will be popular for that reason alone. Community accounts disagree on raw drinking safety at OKB-754. Carry water from a confirmed safe source between an eastern DayZ Badlands military base location and the missile ground farther west.
Choosing a DayZ Badlands military base location before you leave spawn
Match the site to the corner you woke up in. Nasdara is 267 square kilometers of arid ground. Crossing it on principle, because a video showed a prettier rifle, is how fresh characters die with nothing in the canteen. Motorbikes arrived for the wider game in Update 1.30, so a bike can shrink the desert later. It does not make the front gate safer, and these sources do not spell out fuel spawns. If you find one, ride the highway between sites and get off before the compound.
| If you spawned or staged… | First military stop | Water rule | Sensible second stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| East | Dashtabad Airbase | Take canteens before inland loot | Shyak’s bunker while moving south, then Qalat E Lut if you can carry water |
| Northwest | Marek Barq Hydro Dam | Do not drink the reservoir; fish or bring bottles | City resupply once you hit a highway, then the central-west missile base |
| Low on water, any side | Find a confirmed safe drinking source | Rehydrate before you fight; OKB-754 safety is unconfirmed | Whichever base is closest after you are no longer desperate |
| Already geared, with NBC and filters | Border barracks, then the southern tunnel | This is a gas problem, not a thirst solution | A doomsday bunker only if you have a radio and a Morse sheet |
Pack for the site you chose, not for a fictional full kit. Repairable buildings and wells are part of Nasdara’s rebuild systems, but these sources never list the parts. Read the in-game prompt before you throw away base junk you might have needed for a well.
| Item | When it matters | Practical rule |
|---|---|---|
| Water container | Every military trip | A canteen at Dashtabad outranks a second ammo pile if you have nothing to drink |
| Any working firearm and matching magazines | Before you push past starter racks | Dogs, infected, and players all punish an empty sling |
| Light source | Every bunker: dam, mansion, missile site, doomsday | Player reports specifically call the mansion bunker dark |
| Gas mask and extra filters | Southern toxic tunnel only | Getting lost burns air; one filter is a bet, not a plan |
| Radio and Morse translation sheet | Doomsday bunkers only | Community reports tie both items to the code lock |
| Face wrap, goggles, desert clothing | When you find them on the way | Official climate kit; do not skip a gun to hunt a jacket |
Inside the building, use a fixed grab order so you can leave mid-fight and still have gained something.
| Order | Take this | Leave it if you are already fleeing |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Drinkable water or empty containers | Never |
| 2 | Footwear and clothes that protect or free inventory space | Extra duplicate shirts |
| 3 | One working gun and magazines that match it | A second caliber you cannot feed |
| 4 | Medical supplies, then NBC if the tunnel is next | Random junk in medical tents |
| 5 | Rare crates, bunker side rooms, glow-pod mysteries | The entire reason you die looting |
Water sources near those routes are not interchangeable. Memorize which ones are actually a drink.
| Source | Drinkable? | Tied to which trip | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canteen spawns at Dashtabad | The container is the loot | East airbase start | Fill it later at a real source |
| Marek Barq reservoir | No, per player experience | Northwest dam | Fish for food instead |
| Spring at Qalat E Lut | Yes, per guides | Eastern desert compound | Cook upstairs if the balcony is clear |
| OKB-754 crater | Unconfirmed; community reports conflict | Center, between bases | Expect other thirsty players |
| Repaired wells | That is the point of repairing them | Wherever the prompt works | Component list is not public in these sources |
| City water trucks | Players say the city has them | Nasdara City resupply | Confirm the truck works before you linger |
| Border tents and toxic tunnel | Not a water plan | South military run | Stage NBC and filters, then get out |
A few field rules keep those tables honest after the wipe. Everyone is on the same fresh routes, so Ion Crate rooms, the Qalat balcony, border barracks, and code locks will be camped. Hit the plain racks, fill a container, and move. Clear a district of the city instead of the whole skyline. Do not drink at the dam just because you can see water. Do not enter the southern tunnel without spare filters. Do not start a Morse lock puzzle with a crowd behind you and no exit. The right DayZ Badlands military base location is the one you can walk away from with water still in the bottle.
FAQ
Which DayZ Badlands military base location should a fresh spawn hit first?
East spawns should start at Dashtabad Airbase. Northwest spawns should start at Marek Barq Hydro Dam and treat it as a military-and-fishing stop, not a well. There is no universal DayZ Badlands military base location. If thirst is already the emergency, a confirmed safe drinking source matters more than a cleaner armory on the far side of the province. Do not assume OKB-754 is safe.
Does Dashtabad only have low-tier loot?
Player experience says the bulk is early military clothing, canteens, and basic weapons, with Ion Crates as the exception that can hold much stronger guns. A written guide lists armor, food, and weapons and calls the crates a lucky find. Plan for starter gear. Take a crate if it is quiet. Do not die hunting one on a fresh character.
Can you drink the water at the hydro dam?
Not according to player experience. The dam reservoir is for fishing, while the bunker behind it is the military loot. Bring drinkable water with you, or seek a confirmed safe source such as a city water truck or a verified working well. Do not assume OKB-754 is safe from this tour alone. Community reports also say other players use this dam, so do not stand on the skyline while you sort your fish.
Are exact coordinates published for these bases?
Not in the official launch notes, the map overview, or the launch-week guides used here. Use regions instead: east airfield, northwest dam, central crater, deep eastern compound, central-west missile ground, and the southern toxic tunnel with a nearby land border checkpoint. Names that came from a voice tour, especially the missile base and the border site, may not match in-game signs yet. When community maps add real grids, paste these roles onto those grids rather than trusting a guessed number today.
