DayZ Badlands Update: Patch Notes and Launch
Follow the DayZ Badlands update from the July 2026 Road to Badlands patches through the Oct. 15 launch, wipe, and Update 1.30.
The DayZ Badlands update is no longer a teaser sitting on the experimental branch. Bohemia Interactive put the expansion live on October 15, 2026, and the DayZ Badlands update now sits on top of months of 1.29 groundwork, a July prelude called Road to Badlands, and a promised full wipe. If you still have a base on Chernarus, a stash on Livonia, or a Frostline kit on Sakhal, the practical question is what actually changed, what shipped early, and what the publisher has not spelled out yet.
That split matters. Road to Badlands already put desert-colored packs, a new rifle family, and a Nasdara convoy event into the live game months before the map itself. Update 1.30 is the larger break: motorbikes and reworked items in the base game, plus a region pitched around face wraps, dust goggles, light clothing, and desert camouflage.
How the Packages Fit Together
Reading the DayZ Badlands update means separating three packages that share a marketing name. Update 1.29 was a platform release. It opened on PC and Xbox experimental branches on August 14, 2025, and reached stable on April 8, 2026, after nearly eight months of fixes. The community-maintained DayZ Wiki, compiling Bohemia’s branch notes, describes that stable drop as clothing for Sakhal and other maps, blended ground textures, reworked gunshot audio for automatic rifles and pistols, a long bug list, and server performance work.

The Badlands name showed up inside that cycle. Wiki documentation of the 1.29 release article says Bohemia planned an extra 1.29 package, Road to Badlands, before DayZ Badlands and its accompanying Update 1.30. That prelude hit experimental on July 1, 2026, and stable two weeks later, on July 15. A smaller stable follow-up landed on August 12.
Keep that calendar handy when a video calls every 1.29 tweak the DayZ Badlands update. A server-performance fix from April is not the desert map. A July rifle is not, by itself, the October wipe.
Build strings also differ by platform listing. PC stable notes for April 8 cite 1.29.162510, while a parallel platform listing for the same day cites 1.29.162494. The July and August Road to Badlands builds line up more cleanly. Before you report a bug, match the version in your launcher to the note you are reading.

Gear Road to Badlands Added Early
Road to Badlands was a gear drop with a setting attached. The July 15 stable notes add a tan SCR-17 under the general game list, plus a 20-round magazine, a buttstock, and a precision buttstock. They file the black rifle, magazine, and both stocks under the Frostline heading, together with black holo sights. Tan holo sights sit with the general additions. That split is the closest these notes come to an ownership rule. It is not a store page, so check your own account before you assume the black set requires Frostline.
Desert equipment arrived in the same build: a desert-camo combat backpack, a desert-camo plate carrier, a T65 helmet, and military caps in BDU, desert, and woodland. The wiki summary calls the backpack and carrier Desert MARPAT; the patch lines only say desert camo. No armor rating for the T65 appears in these notes. A new brass-knuckles variant is listed, and the wiki further describes it as a Man at Arms: Reforged collaboration item. Woodland and desert female soldier infected were added as well.
Two quieter additions do more scene-setting than the plate carrier. A paper Morse code leaflet was added, and a Nasdara convoy became a server event. Main-menu music switched to a Nasdara theme. The July notes do not publish a convoy route, a leaflet translation, or any drop rate. Treat them as something to discover, not a farm with known numbers.
July known issues said some leaflets spawned clipped into terrain, that a specific Farsi character was wrong, and that the Morse code for the letter M was wrong. The August 12 notes do not repeat those leaflet problems, and they also do not mark them fixed. Retest in the current build.
Moto helmets and Gorka helmets had their maximum wetness cut from WET to DAMP. Those shells should no longer reach the old fully soaked state. The change has been on stable since mid-July, so it already applies on Chernarus and Livonia, not only in the new region. Frostline geysers also got a fix when the secondary eruption effect and sound failed to play.
That early loot is why the DayZ Badlands update felt like it started in July even though the expansion date was October.
| Addition | Where the July 15 notes file it | Detail that changes how you use it |
|---|---|---|
| SCR-17, 20-round mag, buttstock, precision stock (tan) | General game | Core prelude rifle and attachments |
| Same SCR-17 set in black | Frostline heading | Had less health than default until August 12 |
| Holo sights (tan) | General game | Reticle was made thinner on August 12 |
| Holo sights (black) | Frostline heading | On the stable list; experimental general notes had highlighted tan |
| Combat backpack and plate carrier | General game | Notes say desert camo; wiki summary says Desert MARPAT |
| T65 helmet | General game | No protection numbers in these sources |
| Military cap | General game | BDU, desert, and woodland variants |
| Brass knuckles variant | General game | Wiki calls it a Man at Arms: Reforged collaboration |
| Morse code leaflet | General game | July bugs: terrain clip, one Farsi glyph, Morse for M |
| Female soldier infected | General game | Woodland and desert variants; not a player outfit |
| Nasdara convoy | General game | Event added; route and loot not published |
| Menu music | Changed | Switched to a Nasdara theme |
Hotfixes, Older 1.29 Changes, and Open Issues
August 12 was a correction pass, not a content drop. Holo reticles became thinner, so a sight picture you learned in early July is slightly off. The notes also mention small CE tweaks, meaning central economy, without listing items, zones, or nominal counts. Do not invent a loot nerf from that one line.
Three fixes are specific. A server crash was closed. Built tents that could not be interacted with became usable again. The black SCR-17, which had less health than the default gun, was brought in line. If the black rifle felt oddly fragile in July, that health gap is the documented reason, and 1.29.163709 is the build that closes it. Anyone tracking the DayZ Badlands update for weapon bugs should start there, then retest after moving to 1.30.
The same August notes leave a known-issues list: loading and menu screens that are too bright, a Derringer that cannot be reloaded by holding R, herbivores missing roaring audio, items that cannot be targeted around some trees, and bolt-action rifles that glitch out of your hands while reloading. Bright menus were already listed in April, so that complaint has been aging for months. This is not an October 15 bug report. The launch text used here has no 1.30 known-issues section. Retest the Derringer bind and the bolt-gun reload before you build a kit around either gun.
April’s stable 1.29 is still the layer under those hotfixes. It raised crafted and blunt melee damage and increased how much of that damage transfers to infected and animals. Early sticks and pipes hit harder than they did before that patch. Repeat deaths are more likely to place you in a different part of the map. Assault-rifle and pistol gunshots were reworked, ground textures blend more cleanly, and the server browser opens Official when you have no favorites and Favorites when you do.
Official notes from that pass also record closures for item duplication, for entering a vehicle while holding a heavy item, and for inventories filling with random spawned items. Those are fixed exploits, not tricks to attempt. Other player-facing repairs included cars colliding with terrain and launching survivors, tripwires that would not function, indoor shots that sounded suppressed to the shooter, and chelating tablets incorrectly curing wound infection and influenza.
Sakhal was part of the same platform work: a new section of the Burukan bunker, a flag and armband, a pilot jacket, a winter military coat, bodies that no longer rot and draw flies in the cold, and MICH helmets spawning again in locked containers. Later notes restored launcher joins for official Sakhal servers. Road to Badlands did not pause Frostline maintenance.
Console and Microsoft Store notes for the July 15 build add fixes some shorter lists skip. Party chat no longer blocks game chat. Xbox mouse and keyboard work without a controller left plugged in. Keyboard zeroing keys respond again. Microsoft Store bindings save. The June 1 stable pass on that storefront also covered doubled output at certain resolutions, default graphics that failed to apply, and mouse-and-keyboard users getting into controller-only servers.
Modders inherited quieter 1.29 work. New Transport physics calls can put vehicles to sleep. The animation system took an initial step toward Enfusion 2021. A net-sync bug was fixed where quantized float variables broke when range plus precision needed more than 32 bits. None of that says a community save will survive Update 1.30.
| August 12 item | Status in 1.29.163709 | What to do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Holo reticle | Changed; now thinner | Relearn the sight on a familiar gun |
| Central economy | “Small CE tweaks,” no item list | Do not assume a published loot cut |
| Server crash | Fixed | Nothing to reproduce |
| Built tents not interactable | Fixed | Retest tent prompts if you are still on 1.29 |
| Black SCR-17 health | Fixed to match the default gun | July “weaker black rifle” reports are outdated |
| Bright loading and menus | Still listed | Check again on 1.30 before filing it as new |
| Derringer reload with held R | Still listed | Use any reload that still works; retest hold-R |
| Herbivore roar audio | Still listed | Missing sound, not a missing species |
| Items untargetable near some trees | Still listed | Move the item if the prompt fails |
| Bolt-action leaves your hands | Still listed | High-priority retest after the 1.30 patch |
What the October 15 Launch Actually Confirms
The live DayZ Badlands update, as of the October 15 post, is the expansion plus Update 1.30, not another 1.29 hotfix. Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ Badlands launch announcement says the expansion has arrived and that it brings base-game changes with 1.30: motorbikes, selected firearms and other assets with reworked skins, quality-of-life improvements, and more. The post points readers to a separate 1.30 experimental article for the longer base-game list. That write-up is not in the notes collected here, so this guide does not invent handling stats, a skin checklist, or unnamed quality-of-life bullets.
The wipe wording is direct. Update 1.30 will mark a fresh start for everyone, with a full wipe across all platforms. The verb is future tense, inside a post that already calls the expansion live. On October 16, the safe reading is that official characters, bases, and stashes should not be treated as protected. The sentence does not itemize community hives, modded persistence, or a rollback window. Server admins should read the 1.30 notes for their platform before promising that tents survived.
In the region, the post uses a loot-first slogan and then gets specific. Survivors are told to adapt with face wraps, dust goggles, lightweight clothing, and desert camouflage. The weapon range runs from the classic Lee-Enfield to modern SCR firearms. Food is local meals and snacks, or hunting. Named animals are mouflons, desert monitors, and territorial dogs that still guard ground their former owners used, alongside infected. That paragraph has no towns, no rarity tiers, and no claim that dogs replace the infected.
Motorbikes are grouped with base-game 1.30 additions, not described as a desert-only vehicle. SCR guns were already partly in the game through Road to Badlands, and the launch post also places them in the new region’s arsenal. A July rifle and an October map are related. They are not the same patch.
These two sources leave several popular questions open. They do not establish Game Pass inclusion, native PS5 availability, drivable tanks, spawn coordinates, or drop rates. If a creator video asserts any of those, check the current store page and the 1.30 article instead of a 1.29 wiki compile.
| Topic | Supported by the October 15 post | Not established by these sources |
|---|---|---|
| Expansion status | Badlands has arrived | A specific 1.30 build number |
| Wipe | Fresh start; full wipe across all platforms | Private-server exceptions or an exact wipe clock |
| Base game | Motorbikes, reworked skins on some firearms and assets, quality-of-life work | Fuel figures, the skin list, the unnamed quality-of-life items |
| Desert kit | Face wraps, dust goggles, lightweight clothes, desert camouflage | Heat, thirst, or insulation numbers |
| Weapons | Lee-Enfield through modern SCR firearms | Damage tables, calibers, or spawn tiers |
| Wildlife | Mouflons, desert monitors, territorial dogs, infected | Coordinates or behavior stats |
| Storefront extras | Not discussed in the extracted launch lines | Game Pass, native PS5, tank driving |
What to do on patch day
A practical DayZ Badlands update checklist is short, because the wipe removes the usual reason to hoard. Learn the systems. Do not marry the loot.
| Step | Why it is here | Time cost |
|---|---|---|
| Read the version in your launcher | Separates 1.29.163709 from Update 1.30 | About a minute |
| Assume official progress ends | Matches the publisher’s wipe language | Before one last stash run |
| Fire an SCR-17 with the thinner holo | Teaches the July gun and the August sight | One life on a current server |
| Retest a Derringer and a bolt-action | Both were open issues on August 12 | A few minutes |
| Open the official 1.30 pointer | Motorbike and skin details are thinner here than in that article | One sitting |
| Ask community admins about their hive | Official wording does not map every modded server | Before raid night |
Screenshot a base if you want a souvenir. Do not expect those screenshots to restore barrels, vehicles, or a buried crate. If the launcher still shows 1.29.163709, you are on the August prelude, not on the expansion update.
FAQ
Does the DayZ Badlands update wipe your character?
The October 15 post says Update 1.30 will mark a fresh start with a full wipe across all platforms. Plan as if official characters and bases end. These sources do not itemize private servers, so ask the owner before you assume a community hive was erased on launch day.
When did Road to Badlands reach stable?
Experimental notes are dated July 1, 2026, build 1.29.163401. Stable notes are dated July 15, 2026, build 1.29.163451. The follow-up that thinned the holo reticle and corrected black SCR-17 health is August 12, 2026, build 1.29.163709. The expansion announcement came on October 15.
Are motorbikes limited to the new region?
The launch post lists motorbikes among things coming to the base game with Update 1.30. It does not say they appear only in the desert, and it publishes no speed, fuel, or storage figures. Treat them as a base-game vehicle until a patch note says otherwise.
Which problems were still open after the August hotfix?
The August 12 stable notes still listed bright loading and menu screens, Derringer reloads that fail when holding R, herbivores without roaring audio, items you cannot target near some trees, and bolt-actions that leave your hands during reload. That is a pre-launch retest list. It is not proof those bugs survived Update 1.30.
